Analytic Services CEO, Dr. Ruth David, Represents National Academy of Engineering During Launch of Global Competition to Find the Next Female MacGyver

Falls Church, VA (February 20, 2015) – Analytic Services CEO Dr. Ruth David represented the National Academy of Engineering during the launch of the global competition, The Next MacGyver, on Thursday, February 19th in Washington, DC.

The Next MacGyver is a collaboration of Hollywood producers, the National Academy of Engineering, the University of Southern California’s Viterbi School of Engineering, and the MacGyver Foundation to crowdsource ideas for a scripted television series featuring a female engineer as the leading character. The goal is to reinvent the perception of engineers for the 21st century and to inspire young people, particularly women, to envision themselves in that role.

“We need to figure out what messages will inspire others – young people – to become engineers. They create our world.” – Dr. Ruth David

Dr. Ruth David served on a panel discussing the need to motivate more young people—particularly females—to pursue degrees in engineering. Dr. David addressed how engineering is not well understood as a career choice and the importance of finding a better way to reach out and inspire students at all levels. The panel discussed the power of storytelling and how a television series about a female engineer could use such mechanisms to capture the imagination of younger people.
