Arlington, VA – David McIntyre, Ph.D., Homeland Security Studies and Analysis Institute Distinguished Visiting Fellow recently addressed Analytic Services as its latest Distinguished Speaker. Dr. McIntyre’s presentation titled, “The Tyranny of Bad Ideas. Why Policy Makers Can’t Save America, but Data Analysts Might,” sought to inform the audience on what can be done to improve our Nation’s strategy, policy, and operational development processes.
With massive budget deficits, sustained threats to national security, and a gridlocked decision-making climate, it’s imperative to take an exhaustive approach to how we identify and prioritize challenges. Expounding on this Dr. McIntyre said, “The mechanisms of national power and domestic prosperity simply are not delivering the results that our theories of government, security, management, education and social behavior suggest. This is not a political issue – at least it is not a matter of conservatives vs. liberals, or Democrats vs. Republicans. In the areas of diplomacy, military, intelligence, information, economics and domestic safety and security, the public spectacle of smart, well-intentioned people falling prey to terrible unintended consequences seems to know no political boundaries.”
Dr. McIntyre’s presentation was insightful, thought provoking and a perfect fit for our team of research analysts. Using both historical and contemporary examples he clearly demonstrated the need for original and innovative analysis,” said Robert Edson, Analytic Services Vice President of Enterprise Development.
