Arlington, VA – Principal Analyst Dr. Max Houck recently authored an article in Evidence Technology Magazine entitled, Collecting Trace-Evidence Explosive Residues at Post-Blast Scenes: New Resources are available to help investigators with the collection of post-blast trace evidence. The piece is timely as it will assist first responders and ordnance disposal teams that face the ever growing threat of improvised explosive devices. Specifically, the article points to work done on behalf of the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG) within the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations/Low-Intensity Conflict and Interdependent Capabilities’ Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office.
To support TSWG, Dr. Houck and the ANSER Team assembled representatives from the National Forensic Science Technology Center along with explosives experts Dr. John Goodpaster of Indiana University, and Special Agent Don Sachtleben formerly of the FBI. The team’s efforts culminated in the production of a field guide, technical reference, and live training sessions for local, state, and federal agencies. The project is one of several within the Forensic Enterprise Division (FED) of ANSER’s Joint Operations Mission Area that directly support forensic professionals domestically and abroad. Over the last five years, the FED team has assisted the DoD forensic community with policy development; strategic planning; doctrine and training development; mobile training teams; training academies; research, development, testing and evaluation program support; and forensic examiners.
“Combating the broad variety of terrorist threats facing our Nation at home and abroad takes a relentless commitment to collaborative education and interagency cooperation. ANSER’s contribution to the institutional knowledge of the broader forensic community will help sustain our security today and allow for vigorous pursuit of tomorrow’s perpetrators” said Analytic Services Inc. CEO Dr. Ruth David.
