Dr. Gary Gackstetter, DVM, Ph.D.

Dr. Gary Gackstetter, an infectious disease epidemiologist, specializing in zoonoses (animal diseases transmittable to humans), bioterrorism and agroterrorism, is consulting to the Special Assistant to the Secretary of Defense, Chemical and Biological Defense. Currently, he is an active co-investigator for the longitudinal Millennium Cohort Study to document the health outcomes of more than 100,000 service members over a 21-year period. Previously, Dr. Gackstetter served in a number of senior veterinary, environmental health and epidemiological positions within the U.S. Air Force including professorships at the Air Force Academy and the Uniformed Services University (USUHS). Dr. Gackstetter’s USUHS graduate program was ranked in the top six among all accredited programs of preventive medicine and public health from 2003-2005 by the US News and World Report publication, ‘America’s Best Graduate Schools’.

Dr. Gackstetter earned two bachelor’s degrees in arts and animal sciences from South Dakota State University, a doctor of veterinary medicine from Iowa State University, a master of public health from Boston University, and a doctorate in infectious disease epidemiology from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. With over 30 peer reviewed publications and invited papers, plus more than 32 years of health science experience applicable to the bioterrorism trade space, Dr. Gackstetter embodies Analytic Services’ commitment to enhance the Nation’s security by helping decision makers address complex issues.
