Dr. Elin Gursky, M.Sc., Sc.D.

Dr. Gursky, a widely recognized and fully accredited health preparedness policy expert, serves as Senior Advisor for the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the Department of Health and Human Services. Recently, Dr. Gursky edited and contributed to a first ever comprehensive, multi-disciplinary text on mass casualties, Death in Large Numbers: The Science, Policy and Management of Mass Fatality Events. The book, published in late 2011 by the prestigious American Medical Association Press, will guide scientists, practitioners and policy makers working in national security and disaster planning. Prior to joining Analytic Services, Dr. Gursky served as a Senior Fellow with the Johns Hopkins Center for Civilian Biodefense Strategies (currently the University of Pittsburgh Center for Biosecurity) where she wrote one of the first analyses of the medical and public health response to the 2001 anthrax attacks. Dr. Gursky has held senior positions within the hospital sector and local and state governmental public health departments.

Dr. Gursky earned her bachelor of science degree from Kean College, master of science from the University of Michigan, and doctorate of science from the Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health. Published in over 35 academic journals and compendiums and with over 20 years of hands-on public health experience, Dr. Gursky is a critical component of Analytic Services efforts to inform decisions that shape the Nation’s future.
