Fund honors long-time Board member Tom Apperson with $10,000 gift to preserve Dome Island
Fairfax, VA (December 10, 2025) – The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia (CFNOVA) serves as the charitable giving partner to ANSER, a mission-driven organization that provides solutions to advance national security, through the newly established ANSER Community Giving Fund. This corporate donor advised fund reflects ANSER’s commitment to supporting the communities where its employees live and work, alongside its dedication to meaningful, purpose-driven work that makes a profound difference to the nation and the world.
As part of the inaugural grant cycle, ANSER donated $10,000 to The Nature Conservancy Dome Island Fund in honor of Tom Apperson, Senior Advisor at Avalon Net Worth. Apperson has served on ANSER’s Board since 2004 and retired this November. Tom requested that this contribution support the endowment created to preserve Dome Island, a pristine wilderness in Lake George, New York, that his family originally donated to The Nature Conservancy in 1954.
“We are deeply grateful for ANSER’s generous gift to the Dome Island Fund,” said Peg Olsen Adirondack director at The Nature Conservancy. “Dome Island is one of Lake George’s most ecologically significant areas, and this contribution helps us preserve its natural state so that it can be used for scientific and educational purposes for generations to come. The Appersons’ legacy of stewardship lives on through this meaningful donation.”
This gift continues Tom’s legacy of community support and environmental stewardship and underscores ANSER’s belief in making a positive impact beyond its core mission. Through strategic grantmaking and community initiatives, the Community Foundation ensures that every contribution creates meaningful change. CFNOVA empowers individuals, families, and businesses, to support causes they care about while strengthening Northern Virginia and communities beyond.
“People come to work at ANSER for the opportunity to do interesting, purposeful work that makes a profound difference,” said Steve Hopkins, President and CEO at ANSER. “Supporting our clients’ missions is central to what we do every day, and giving back to our communities is equally important. With CFNOVA’s support, we were able to execute the ANSER Community Giving Fund grants process thoughtfully and strategically to benefit our community, honoring Tom’s service through this contribution reflects both values.”
